Photograph Scribes: Watching through Writing

Join us for a workshop by writer Dilpreet Bhullar that follows her lecture on image writing.

At this juncture of overwhelming influx and overconsumption of images, the workshop invites participants to pause, perceive and ponder. By engaging with diverse forms of writing, participants are encouraged to respond to various photographic milieus: be they fine art, documentary, personal, vernacular or journalistic. This multi-genre approach prompts participants to consider their audience and purpose, whether writing for publication, academic research or curatorial practice. It cultivates a critical awareness of photography’s histories, aesthetics and political implications, with an emphasis on nurturing participants’ curiosity to translate visual experience into compelling prose.

The workshop contributes to a broader inquiry into what makes a photograph function as a social text: if it shapes public memory, how can the written word illuminate the ways we see, remember and narrate it?
