About the Event
Over 10 years Sunhil Sippy has been documenting the racecourse and its many facets in a gentle and “purposeless” fashion. The images reflect the stubborn tenacity and tradition of the racing culture and community amidst the flux of a rapidly changing urban landscape.
The Mahalakshmi Race Course is not just a historical landmark but a dynamic space where tradition and modernity intersect. The chronicling of its transformation presents a microcosm of the broader changes sweeping through Mumbai. This decade long observation serves as a poignant reminder of its enduring place in the city’s heart and its ever-shifting landscape.
The evening will begin with Sunhil speaking about the making of the book and his decade-long engagement with the racecourse, followed by Zeenat Kulavoor sharing how she approached the designing of the photobook. The session will then open into a conversation moderated by Kaamna Patel, followed by a Q&A.
